Master Planning

Plan detail for Dinkytown Greenway Environmental Signage

Before pen is put to paper to draw a family of signs, a wayfinding program begins with a thorough understanding of the needs of its users and the challenges presented by its location. Who is this program for? What does their arrival experience look like and what do they know ahead of time? Where are they headed and what decisions need to be made along the way? What points are likely to cause confusion, or a loss of confidence? Are there specific needs for multilingual information or universal accessibility? What about durability and maintenance requirements over time? Our master planning efforts identify the functional criteria for success, then build a strategic framework around which a design solution will be built.

Wayfinding & Architectural Signage

Visual Communications has the expertise to provide safe and easy access to your facility through the development of comprehensive wayfinding and signage programs. Our multi-step approach involves data gathering, navigation/site analysis, conceptual design, and construction documentation. Throughout this process, we balance each project’s aesthetic, cost, and functional requirements to achieve a thoughtfully designed solution that reinforces your brand and complements your architecture.

Experiential Graphic Design

City of Eden Prairie bird sculpture

There is a universal human desire to be secure and comfortable in the environments where we live, work, learn, and play. Leveraging its 30 plus years of experience, Visual Communications can bring to life exciting visual elements that will sharpen our perception of a sense of place, and dramatically enliven our surroundings. Created through a careful blending of typography, color, texture, and form, these elements are diverse and may include sculpture, murals, and conventional graphic signage.

Donor Recognition

The word philanthropy comes to us from the Greek “philos” and “anthropos” which mean “love of humanity”. At Visual Communications, no aspect of the work we do is more satisfying than the design of graphic displays which acknowledge charitable giving. Donor recognition projects can be large or small, and they may range from the traditional to the cutting edge. But regardless of their size, complexity, or prominence, these projects make us feel better about ourselves and our communities by celebrating the timeless spirit of human generosity.
