When Macalester College requested a new Signage Master Plan design, it was evident to us that the campus identity and wayfinding signature we would create would be timeless, classic and contemporary. These attributes reflect Macalester’s notable architecture, unique student body and international acclaim
The college, established in 1885, is a unique urban campus hosting a diverse student population with 19% of students from 90 different countries. The new Signage Master Plan has been developed with multilingual pictograms to address all students and families.
Monumental signage was reinvented for increased readability and raised for higher visibility. All signage is constructed of long lasting aluminum. In key decision areas, internally illuminated high-quality graphic campus directory maps were also designed with true orientations to greatly improve the wayfinding experience.
Secondary building signage provides elegant identification including address, building function, and key department information for both
vehicular and pedestrian users.
Specialty signage was designed to be changeable to greet the many groups from family orientation days, to guest speaker engagements,
private weddings, as well as graduation and alumni ceremonies.”
