Founded in 1866, Carleton College is an independent and highly-selective liberal arts college. It occupies more than 900 scenic acres of campus, arboretum, and athletic fields.
Visual Communications completed a comprehensive campus vehicular and pedestrian wayfinding masterplan in September 2002 for the campus’s primary and secondary buildings, parking areas, and residence halls. The Masterplan Hierarchy included all exterior identification and wayfinding. The university signage was designed for high durability. University signage panels were cast aluminum with raised graphics and pebbled backgrounds. A custom extrusion was designed to complement the gothic bevels of the campus. Primary signage elements are created in cold springs granite, from the Minnesota area.
